is it possible to make a mat for your photos with your cricut? i played with the george cartridge but have to give it back. i have the jasmine and the mickey. i just got my cricut from someone who is moving up to the larger one. i wondered if i could make mats for my photos. they aren't over 4x6 and most are smaller. i am trying to do a page for my scrapbook and i am really new at this. i had some mats that came with it but i don't like the color or designs. i wondered if it is possible to cut your own.

Absolutely! Of course you won't be able to cut mat cardboard but cardstock paper would work fairly well. The wonderful thing with the SCAL/Cricut combo is you can go as elaborate as you want for your mat cut outs.
You might do a search for 'frames' in this forum and see some ideas that appeal to you.
I was wondering if you could buy one of the much cheaper theme cartridges like the sports themes to use as your 'token' cartridge that has to be plugged in for SCAL to work. Maybe someone in our wonderful forum has tested that out already. I only have George that came with my baby Cricut.
Enjoy discovering all the wonderful things you can create with these two valuable tools.
You might check out
and look under DINGS. There are some great frames there. I think there's a category or two called frames. Worth a look-see.
If you want to do them in SCAL, just put a square on the mat and then put another square on the mat, make it smaller and move to the center of the other mat and resize.
Don't weld. When you do a preview, it will show a frame.
There is also a font called Boxed In that has great frames.
