Help!! with inkscape....

Post by naniofsix »

I found a picture or graphic on Coloring for kids and saved it on my computer as a bmp. I then went to inkscape and imported it and it came up but when I tried to follow Susan BLuetooth directions all I got was the red X and no picture. What am I doing wrong... No matter what I try I cannot get it to work and thus cannot get the picture to SCAL. I even tried not to change anything and just save it as a svg file. It will not let me open it in scal. Just any empty box...Help Spent all this money and am gettin frustrated...

Hi, I've never tried a bmp, but if you saw it I guess it would work. I save as jpg. I don't know what you are doing wrong. Did you Trace Bitmap? Did you Break Apart?

Try my tutorial on my BLOG on Tracing Bitmap which is a must! It is located under tutorials, Tracing Bitmap. Also take a look at Breaking Apart. If you can both those things you should be fine.

Let me know how you do.

big red x or tiny red x?

tiny--it won't load that type of file.

big? try changing the "view" from outline to "normal" & you'll see the image.

I thought that bmp was an acceptable file for inkscape.

you could try loading the image in another program that you can convert to a jpg & then open that in inkscape.

hope this helps.

bmp files will work in INK. Open the file, select the shape, click on Path>Trace Bitmap.

I always start with the Brightness Cutoff setting and you might have to modify it. Click Update to get an idea of what your scan will look like, if not satisfied, change setting. Click on OK to get the scan. If not satisfied with the scan, delete it, select the original bitmap again, and start over.

HTH Any questions, PM me.
