Lol ..........it didn't take me very long

Post by dublin2 »

to have to come here for help!! I have been reading up on and playing with my new Cameo and I'm already in trouble!! I know the machine is new but I am getting frustrated after a few hours of playing. I can't figure out why, after loading the cutting mat into the machine that the cut is starting off the paper and on the mat?? I have gone over and over the instructions and have followed them to the letter, but it still begins the cut on the mat and then to the paper. I hope this is making sense! It's a bit strange too that it cuts from the left to the right or is it right to the left???!!!! If you're looking at the machine it's from the left to the right!! Anyway, I'm probably doing something wrong.........just can't figure it out yet. I am also cutting on my cheaper cardstock and figuring out cut by cut which works best for blade depth and speed and I'm using my Cricut mats because the Silhouette ones seem so thin. Could someone point me in the direction of tips and tricks for this machine or give me the answers to the test here!! :D

if you have Scal set to WYSIWYG where you place the object on the virtual mat is where it will cut - BUT you have to have the mat set to the same size as the one you using.
if you have an A4 (8.2"X11.6") mat but set scal to use 12X12 and place an object near the right hand side on screen, the cutter will move to that point to cut. it WILL not know you only have A4.

not sure if this is available on the cameo but if you use knife point (origin point) it will cut from where the origin is (top left of the cameo/mat)

I haven't even started using SCAL3 yet  .......I just picked a shamrock from one of my purchased files in the SOS. It is set to the 12 x 12 mat even in SCA but I can't get the image to start cutting out whole on the paper. Uuuggghhhhhh :?

I don't have the cameo, but will take a shot at suggesting....is there a calibration setting you must do first? And, are you set to portrait or landscape with the mat and could that be causing the problem?

I have a cameo (amongst others :) ) but I use it with Scal
I only use studio for converting files LOL

I have never had to calibrate the cameo - it just worked out the box..... I use a mac but don't think that has much to do with it ;)

I'm not sure if it matters if you use SCAL or the Silhouette program, but make sure you hit the "load cutting mat" and NOT the "load media." As me how I know that. I ruined a nice new mat doing that.

Yep, very important to pay attention and make sure you are : LOAD CUTTING MAT and not LOAD MEDIA. When you turn your machine on, look in the lighted window and make sure the little black dot is on LOAD CUTTING MAT. If it's not, use the up and down keys to get it to the right spot. The Load Media is for vinyl. I don't know why Silhouette called it Load Media. It makes it sound like you are supposed to insert a video or something.

I'm guessing it's so you can load ANY media that you cut without a mat.

if you have foil or card that has a backing you would use that. if they labelled it LOAD VINYL people would assume it was ONLY for vinyl.

we just need to play more with our cutters - good excuse LOL

Ok everyone, I think I figured out what I was doing wrong and you guys were right......I was "loading media" and not the cutting mat!! I got so frustrated last night that I decided to give up and go to bed. After deciding I wasn't going to touch the machine until this afternoon, I sat down with a cup of coffee and re read the directions again going over every step and then looking at the window on the machine, the button was next to load media not to load cutting mat! That's a relief! Now I'm trying to cut out duplicate shamrocks by hitting the replicate button and I can't figure out how to cut more than one without having to put more than one shamrock on the mat. Did that make sense?? At this rate it's going to take me a year to figure out this machine! Okay, back to the directions!

I'm not getting it.

are you trying to cut the same shamrock more than once or multiple shamrocks on a page?

if you are trying to cut 1 shamrock in the same place more then once, when you click cut, in the cutter dialogue, just set the multicut to two, three, four or five.

if you want to cut more then one shamrock then just duplicate or copy & paste the shamrock and place them where you want them on the page.
