Hi

I went to this website and downloaded a WMF. However Inkscape won't open it. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? The error message is:

Failed to load requested file.

I'ved tried opening and importing the file. Thanks for your help!

Ok this may sound funny to some but I'm new to all this. I just got Sure cuts a lot and that is how I found this board. Ok so I love all that I'm seeing and want to learn how to do it all. I've been reading and reading and I'm so lost... I have the cricut expression and have the design studio and sure cuts a lot software... But I'm reading all this stuff about scal and Inkscape... What is it and do I have to have it to be cutting all these images like stich... I've been to the wedsite where you got him from and want to know how I can cute him out and lots more... Teach me let me in on this new world....
Thanks,

That is absolutely awesome...it looks perfect.

Question though...how on earth did you open it with SCAL? I'm probably software challenged, I know...but when I downloaded an image onto my compter as a wmf like you said and then tried to open it with SCAL, it wouldn't open. What did I do wrong? I really want to be able to do this now that I've seen how amazing it is. Please help!

I haven't downloaded from the site for quite some time but if I remember correctly you have an option of wmf, jpg, png etc. I saved mine as a wmf file, and when I opened it, not imported it in Inkscape it opened fine, I had no problems. You do however have to take it apart and place it on the mat how you want it to show up, then save it as a svg. Now it's ready to "import" it to scal it should be ready to cut.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for reply. I tried to do what you said. I'm assuming you have to open it in paint and then move the pieces to get it the way you want it, then convert it to svg, then import it in inkscape? I can't get the layers moved.

I also tried to do open project in scal, but that wouldn't work either. Do I have to open something with inkscape and not scal? I really don't know what exactly you mean I guess. For us dunces, can you state exactly what you do? I would really appreciate it!

Thanks a ton!!

What I did was save it as wmf file in a folder that I have named whatever i decide, like animals etc . Open it in inkscape tear apart and position it on the mat by color, save as svg then when you open scal import and there it is.

re:
I read further what your message said and the only programs you have to have are inkscape and scal to do the proceedure we are talking about. One other before I leave you can't open wmf directly in scal. Someday maybe but for now don't believe you can. You have to save it in inkscape as a svg file then import the svg to scal.

Thank you Grammie! Most of my confusion was the difference between Inkscape and scal. I thought that Inkscape was the interface program for SCAL. I didn't realize I had to download it (a totally different program). Now that I've done that, I got the image I wanted into inkscape. Now I just have to play around and figure out the rest of what you are telling me to do...hopefully that won't be too hard. I'm obviously a novice.

Thank you so much for being willing to bestow your expertise on me. You don't know how much I appreciate you taking the time!
