From what I understand from the other posts, that is what you do. Open the version of DSS you want and then do a firmware update.

Updating the firmware is software telling Cricut's board to work this way or that way so I would not do it 3 or 4 times a day. I would cut out what you need in the version before changing versions and firmware again. Updating the firmware is working with the cricut's internal board. I am not saying don't do it, I am saying be moderate in doing it...it is not as simple as just changing a cart.

I read that PC is coming out with a major update for CDS this month. I can't imagine that Todd is going to waste his time for a few weeks minor inconvenience when the next update will probably block SCAL as well.

I find it amazing that PC can't seem to fix CDS or make available even simple windows functions within the program yet they have their programmer(s) come up with a block for SCAL.

Actually, Provo has changed their firmware to purposefully block SCAL and others from accessing their firmware to talk to the Cricut. See the post Beanie provided: http://www.cricut.com/messageboard/tm.a ... 01&mpage=1. They say their Cricut is their machine (which it is) and they are keeping it and all firmware exclusive to them.

Hey...I'm sorry if my post came out nasty...I didn't intend to bash Todd. I'm just kinda frustrated, thats all. I do love SCAL...I have like a zillion fonts and love that I am able to use them with my Cricut. I also buy cartridges and use DS....I just want to be able to use both. I'll keep checking back for a pem fix. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply! I can understand the frustration - ur not alone! I'm glad you like SCAL - it really is a cool program. You can use both DS and SCAL but you do need to switch firmware IF you have the later carts that require an update. If you use older carts, then you probably don't need the latest firmware.

Microsoft updates our computers daily. I would assume that it is safe. This should be a similar process.

Microsoft updates your Windows software daily, not your hardware. In case you are referring to the firmware updates. Changing the firmware is just like changing the BIOS on the computer...you are using software to make changes on the internal board.

I agree with Wreed. SCAL does soooo much more than DS and is easier to use.

I haven't mastered Inkscape yet, however, I have found a way around this and managed to cut lots of great things (well I think they're pretty great!).

If I had to choose between DS & SCAL, SCAL would win out anyday. I've stopped buying carts now UNTIL PC lighten up on this issue. I can see their side of things too, they are a company out to make money, but, they are losing money by blocking SCAL not making it. I would use my DS again if it was unblocked. I realise there is a fix around this and that I can use both programs, and I have done this already, but I'm lazy..LOL. I cannot be bothered changing back and forth, and I prefer SCAL anyway.
