Word Book Materials

Post by schnauzerkisses »

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right category, but was very pleased to see the word books people had created. I just purchased and downloaded the software this evening, and now it is way past my bedtime and I'm too excited to sleep. Quick question...I usually think of wordbooks as being made of a thin chipboad. Is that what people are using here, or are they using cardstock? If you are using chipboard...does it cut ok on the cricut? I know cricut is coming out with a deep housing blade, but my understanding is that it isn't out yet. Anyways...I'd love to know what material people use.

Thanks!!!!

I have made a couple of word books and I use two pieces of carstock which I paste together and then cut a paper front and back for each page as well, So each page of mine is made up of 4 layers before I decorate it. Chipboard in NZ is too thick to cut.

I have used the thin cardboard material that comes with cardstock packs.

I, also, have used the cardboard that comes on the cardstock packs. I also purchased Mementos Chipboard by Pixie Press...it comes in a 12-piece value pack...I bought mine at Pat Catan's. And...I just got a pack of 25 sheets of medium-weight Chipboard at a LSS....which I have not used yet...am waiting on the deep cut blade before I try it.
For the thin chipboard, I turn the blade housing to 6 on the Cricut and cut twice. It is pretty much trial and error. ;) Good Luck! Have FUN!!!! :D

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!!! For some reason the idea of cutting the same thing twice never occured to me. Go figure. I'll have to try this and then get the deep blade when it becomes available.

I use .22 chipboard and cut three pieces for each page. That makes for a fairly sturdy book. However, I'll be happier when the deep blade comes out as I understand you can cut much stronger materials.

I made mine out of cereal boxes and they turned out great. Cut cardstock and paper and glued to both sides. I inked the edges to you couldn't see the cardboard at all. HTH.
