Can I come live with you or do I have to "break the bank" once again. If I can't come live with you, guess I'll have to order my own Zing...are you in cohorts with KnK. (Guess no 55 inch TV for me...)

And it only took 5 days to get it...yes, I've been stalking you. If I order now, I will have it by the next 3-day weekend...unless I can come live with you...and then I'll be there by the next 3-day weekend...LOL

Congrats......

Hi everyone, It's been a while I've posted but have been lurking. I have the personal cricut and the expression with scal that still work great, what is the advantage for me to consider the zing. Are there many new features or is it every one is upset with the cricut company.

ok I have had a whole day to cut on the Zing. Learning to setup the Zing is not a problem at all. but I did have a whole day of frustrating cutting. My paper kept tearing or not cutting through. I kept reading the forums and the directions, watching videos for the blade settings but nothing helped. I finally said the heck with it and set the blade so it hardly showed and turned my pressure up from 80-100 to 130 now it is a perfect cut. I also found out that some files work and cut beautiful and some by other designers do not. All Scal files worked just fantastic. I wish there was a group in AZ for all this lol. So if you are not willing to take the time and go through a lot of testing, or don"t have a dealer near you for support then I would say think about it. If you are good at figuring things out for yourself then it is fantastic!

So you are cutting with your Zing using SCAL? Or are you using MTC?

MTC. SCAL has not come out with the drivers yet. I was told they were working on them. I have cut SVG's that were made by SCAL and they turn out beautiful now that I have my settings correct.

Have you been to Paperthreads? They have a forum and that is where I saw links to videos tutorials.

I'm not upset about the way Cricut is promoted or the business behind Cricut. It just doesn't do what I want to do. I've been using a Gazelle for a year now and while I love it, I want the Zing. More power for cutting various material (want to cut/engrave acrylic and baked clay) and it's not overly expensive...plus I've wanted a KnK (Zing is from Klik n Kut) since I first read about it.

You should check it out if you are in the market for another cutter.

Thanks Althea, I am not in the market at the moment, I was curious as to how much better it worked. I'll check it out.

I had a Cr E and got a Zing back in November. I can give you my reasons for ordering. First is versatility. It can accept just about any blade holder, pen, pencil device, I also wanted the option to cut a full 12 inches wide or more as with 15" vinyl. The Zing can do that. I wanted something that if it a piece broke it could be replaced. You could NEVER do that with a provocraft machine. The construct is all metal and is VERY durable. I am not afraid I will break anything. It also has a HIGH cutting force. I knew I wanted to venture into doing other materials like etching metal. With 750 grams of cutting force it will handle it.=D It cuts clean sharp and I can do detailed cuts. Overall I am super happy.
To be balanced, I can tell you my three complaints -
1. I prefer a click holder and using far less expensive Roland blades. Easy fix- the eclips holder works perfect for this solution- less than $16.
2. I wish it had adjustable rollers to cut long pieces of 12" vinyl. I worked around this making an inexpensive carrier mat.
3. a pause button - because sometimes I goof up.=D

If SCAL wants to make a plugin for they Zing they are allowed. They are nothing like those un-named companies who try to control the market. Free markets are good and help improve products.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the excellent response and yes that does help. Everyone is talking about down force, I use my cutters mainly for cutting vinyl for sand blasting and have cut 25mm Hartco sand blast resist with no problem.
