Please help me undertand ;)

Post by cloetzu »

Hello Everyone,

It's been quite a while since i've been around so hoping everyone is well! I've read about some changes. I understand the need and where it all stemmed from.

I haven't used my Cricut in over a year and thus haven't used my SCAL2 in almost the same amount of time... so hoping someone can answer a few questions for me...

If i get the latest firmware for my Cricut will it stop me from using my SCAL 2 with the machine?
If I get the latest files (cartridge files) for my DS software will it impact SCAL 2 ie the ability to use SCAL 2 (i don't think it will but just need to ask)? If i get these files but then DON'T get the latest firmware for the Cricut will it make my DS software not work (ie not cut because it is looking for the latest firmware on the machine)?

What I'm getting at is - what can i do to get the latest version of things as possible and still be able to use SCAL 2 and with my Cricut?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can go here and fill out the form to get the latest SCAL2 version.
I am not sure about the other.
My pictures and files are available for a limited time only.

My Cricut is running firmware version 2.43. I updated to this to run Cricut CraftRoom just a few days ago. SCAL 2 2.044 (the latest and last available version) works fine.

Since it's been so long since I used the cutter or the software I can't recall, does DS show you the firmware version that it is going to install before you actually hit 'install' ?

It should work fine, but you just need to make sure you don't run both programs at the same time. other than that, you should be ok. Here's a blog that Leo at svgcuts wrote in reference to this. Read it all the way through, as if you read only the beginning, you'll think that it won't work.

I also read Leo's blog and installed CR but decided not to update the Cricut firmware and my SCAL2 works fine. But I don't buy cartridges anymore so I really don't need to update the firmware. Same with my Gypsy. I also haven't touched CR since the first time I opened it, not user friendly. MHO.
