OK, hope some of you techies are able to answer this one!
I've been working on a word book in inkscape and I have been noticing when I open an svg file in SCAL the bounding box has gone huge. I have outlined the bounding box in pink in Inkscape below...

And this is how it loads into SCAL...

The problem comes when I try to move the svg file around in SCAL, once I drag it so that the move icon is off the grid so-to-speak, I then have to use the Properties box to move the svg around. Major pain . Same thing when I use the resize icon.
Can anyone tell me how to keep the bounding box the same size as it shows in Inkscape??[/size]
Make sure there is nothing else on the page before you leave INK. Open the file in INK, CTRL+A (Select All). If the bounding box in INK is also that large, there is something else on the screen...it might be white so you can't see it. Change to view to Outline or change the color while everything is still selected.

I almost always have Inkscape files import small into SCAL. I usually just drag them to the size I want. Maybe you could try rearranging your image in Inkscape so that the frame won't go off the mat in SCAL (after checking for transparent objects as AnnointedHands said).
Anointed Hands, I did 'select all' and nothing else was getting selected so no hidden stuff. Wreed06, I tried moving the objects around and it got worse... at FIRST! Then I tried a different combination and this happened:

I started to think that the letter B was the problem because it wasn't showing up where I had placed it in Inkscape! I put the whole word 'Bugs' below the album pages and yet it was bumped up into the TOP right hand corner. So I removed the B and this happened:

So I went back into Inkscape and ungrouped and regrouped, broke apart and combined the B until it was uniformly combined. I guess I had used a combination of the two methods of grouping and that is what the problem was. Here is the final result:

So between the two of your suggestions and mucking about I was able to figure it out. Thank you for directing my thinking in the right direction. Now I'll know what the problem is if I get this huge box again!
Okay so I am really new to all this and have tried and tried playing with Inkscape. I am trying to take apart the cupcake to cut the candle a different color and when I seperate it and save as it is okay until I take it into SCAL and then it does like yours did with the big box around. Does anyone have any ideas. I tried the Ctrl "A" and it does show a bigger box but there is nothing there. I even tried different colors and the tracing thing too. I guess I am picky but I would like it to go into to SCAL with a tighter box so I can adjust the size easier without loses the arrows so fast if you know what I mean. I would greatly appreciate anyones help!!
Sabrina, try 'save as' a new duplicate file, try moving the items around like I did and you may see which item is giving you the trouble. In my case the letter "B" was the problem. I ungrouped it, regrouped, broke apart and combined in Inkscape and then checked out SCAL to see if it worked, and it did.
If you have a large box in INK and don't see anything, it might be a node. Go to View>Outline mode or click on the Edit Path icon (2nd icon on left side) and if it is a node it will show up as a line in Outline view or a node in Edit Path.
The attached file show nothing but there is actually a line along the left side and a node in the upper right corner.

You guys have been very helpful. What exactly is a node?? What can I do to get rid of it? Boy do I have alot to learn huh? I did help my neighbor who is a teacher with some things. I was really excited with this project for her. She is a teacher. Again Thank you all for all your help in helping me learn the inkscape program. Once I get the hang of it I will have to share some of my projects I am trying to work on. Here is the picture of the No Whining one for my neighbor.
YEAH!!! I DID IT!!! All I did was right click the candle stick and copy then opened a new document and pasted it there. Then saved that new document. When I opened the new document in SCAL it was perfect!!! I think that is what Marly was trying to tell me what to do so THANKS!!! It worked!!! I love this program!!! I will get working now. Also if you still can tell me what a node is. Thanks!!
