Importing into SCA

I was just playing around with importing files from Inkscape. Maybe most of you already figured this out...

When I make a title and a mat in Inkscape and save them as one file you can't move them separately in SCA. I made my title and mat and then saved them each as a separate file. I wasn't sure if you could import more than one file into SCA at a time on the same mat - but you can. Now I can move my mat and title around as separate items.

EDITED - hmmm - seems like it changes the sizes when I import - the mat doesn't fit the title.... I can stretch it and make it work, but SCA freezes up everytime I try to line them up... will post under the "bugs" section...

EDITED - well... this time it let me line them up and didn't freeze up... go figure....

what happens if you separate the mat from the title & then import them that way? does that not work?

I don't have SCA yet to play around with it to figure that out. hmmm. maybe late May for my bday, lol.

I can separate them and import them in one file but then in SCA you can't move each one on it's own - they move together. Which isn't the end of the world... I was just playing around to see what I could do.

interesting. that's good to know. wonder if they'll 'fix' or change that.

Maybe I will just have to make sure that i have it moved in Inkscape to allow for cutting space and leave it at that... Not try to move individual items in SCA... that would solve the changing size thing too....

I had to save the title and the mat as two separate files. I imported both files and didn't have a problem after that. If you get a file that has both title and mat in one file, just go to Inkscape and separate them into two files.

I opened the file
Select one set, hit delete
Save the file
Hit undo (which puts the deleted object back)
Select and delete the other object
Save the file again using Save As and give it the same name + mat (e.g., flowers mat)

I tried that - but when you import to SCA does your image change size? I can set the text height at 1 inch in Inkscape, but when i import to SCA it's smaller. I have to resize...

And I have to resize whether I save items separately or together...

And does your SCA ever freeze up when you move the title/mats around?

Yes I had the same problem - the imported file is much smaller - some thing to do with resolution I believe; I have asked them to include metric measurements in the next version as I design in metric in Inkscape then when I import I have to rescale in inches! - also metric is better for the European market. Another thing I found is that SCAL won't work in portrait version( I'm using the Cricut Expression )- only landscape.
