I just selected the layer for the lettering, then clicked on File>Print. Since I only have a B&W printer at work but I think the lettering was the simulated color because it printed very light...black would have printed dark.

PS - Love this file so hope you don't mind me scraplifting it.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I assume that you do not want the lettering the color that it is. If that is correct you need to change the stroke color. The fill color is black but because the text is so small the stroke color is dominant. Open the layers window and change the stroke color (the little box beside each piece) to the color you want. I don't know how to batch do this, maybe someone else does but it didn't take long to change them all.

Then be sure you are not using print outline only and do a print/preview to ensure that you have what you want.

Hope this is the answer you seek. I didn't print it but it looks good in print/preview.

You can also change it in Inkscape.

Looking with magnification, I could see that the centers of the letters were filled black.
I pulled the back of the butterfly away and pulled a box around all of the words and went Object breakapart and then merge.
Then I put a box around all of the letters and grouped and then went to the Properties panel and the box showing the color, I clicked on it and the color palette opened and I chose purple and then ok just once because the words are now grouped. Then on the layers box, I clicked on the long rectangle color and chose purple, for the outline, which does not print...it is just there to help in designing. It will only print if you take a screen capture of your b-fly...but if you print from scal it will not print...just the center color of any object.

Thanks to all who answered my question. I did want the text to print in another color and gj1's method worked for me. If you print out the lettering and then cut out the shape using the hinge method, you can insert tootsie pops in slits and use have a valentine gift to give! :D
