SCAL2 won't cut after updating Cricut software and firmware

Hi, I have just joined the forum as I have had several hassle-free years of using SCAL2 with my Cricut Personal cutter. I also have Cricut Design Studio which I hardly use as I never buy Cricut cartridges anymore but I have recently bought the Elegant Edges cartridge and needed to update both the CDS software and the firmware of my Cricut to 1.34 in order to use the cartridge in CDS. I had done some reading first and it seemed that this should cause no problems with using SCAL2 but NO. I can open SCAL2 and set up new SCUT files but when I go to cut using the Cricut, I get the Cutting with Cutter screen saying "Starting Connection" and then it goes no further and the Cricut doesn't cut anything. The Pause and Cancel buttons are both greyed out and I have to use Windows Task Manager to shut down SCAL2. I have rebooted the computer and turned the Cricut on and off but no change.

Has anyone else had this problem or what suggestions can I try to fix this problem as I hate using CDS and wouldn't have updated it if I had known this would happen.

The only suggestion I can think of is to make sure neither of these programs are open when you are trying to cut in SCAL2. I was afraid that something might happen with the updates of Cricut, etc. I wonder if they have tweeked the update so it will not work because people were updating up to this point and still having it work. Did you read the forum at SVGcuts.com regarding this. Leo updated and no problem. I installed the CCR and did not update firmware and it works fine and SCAL2 works fine. One other suggestion is to contact Leo at SVGcuts and see what he has to say about it. Good Luck.
