Thanks y'all! I ended up going with a piece of oak with a rounded edge that I painted white. Here is the final product!
It looks FANTASTIC on top of my piano.

I figured out the problem. The Cougar is set up to cut with the mat all the way to the right, but SCAL is center aligned. I marked my table so the mat will be aligned with SCAL's center. It's working out well and I am wasting a lot less vinyl and paper now.

MDF=Medium Density Fiberboard...I think. It's just the cheap, smooth "wood" they sell at the lumber store.

I am having the hardest time getting my images to cut in the same place on the actual mat as they are on my screen mat.
