I am trying to make cute polka dot or birthday cake wrapping paper for my little gift box and I created a pattern using object to pattern and then using fill and stroke but in scut it doesnt turn out. How can I do this?
I was hoping to be able to use difference with the pattern but it doesnt work.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance:)

Hi, I took a look at your file. I didn't know, and still don't know, how to get a pattern to cut. I emailed my friend Carolyn, in Australia and ask her to take a look and tell me what to do for you. She does great tutorials on features of Inkscape.
Here's her answer for you.
I looked at the link to the post. Suggest to the lady to make a bitmap copy then trace the bitmap. You cannot use any design created in object to pattern directly as it acts more like a bitmap but cannot be traced. It is a pattern. For example if you use patterned paper or fabric all of the design is embedded in the paper or fabric and each pattern cannot be used separately. Tell the lady to look in outline mode and she will see each little circle is not visible and if she designed on a rectange that a rectangle will be present and a rectangle will be cut.
I have attached the difference between the two ways that would work. There are probably even more ways but tiled clones would be my choice.
Steps
Create design in Object to Pattern
Edit>Make a Bitmap Copy
Trace Bitmap
Save file.
P.S. Carolyn sent another example file "after she woke up" she said. So now there are two mini tuts for fixing the files.
Cheers
