How do I copy an image from inkscape file to another inkscape file? I hope this makes sence.

Inkscape doesn't use the OS clipboard like most programs, it uses something within the program. What you need to do when you want to paste from one Inkscape file to another is open one of the files, then from the open file menu or tool bar open a new file or an existing file. HTH
