Please please HELP!!

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help me before I tear the last few bits of my hair out! I am using SCAL 2 with the latest update and Inkscape .47 downloaded today so it should be the latest one. I followed a fabulous tutorial to make a wordbook in inkscape and that went really well. The tutorial can be found here:
http://dan99.blogspot.com/2009/01/video ... ks-in.html I am giving this information as I have seen other members ask which tutorial was used.
I saved each page separately as indicated in the tutorial and everything looked fine. However, when I import the svg file into SCAL, I just see one of the grab handles up in the top left-hand corner and no file at all. I have tried on two computers but have the same problem on both. I have checked that I can import other svg files i.e. one downloaded from the internet and not made by me in inkscape and that imports fine.

I have been trying to sort this out for hours by looking at forums and tutorials and reinstalling, remaking files etc all to no avail. I really hope someone can suggest something - I desparately want to get this wordbook made - it's kind of important!! :!:

Thanks in advance.

Carol

Are you going path / object to path or path union.. Inkscape.47 likes union over object to path.. so try the union with each piece...

If I'm not mistaken that tuit was done for Inkscape .46. If you look at the comments they date to late Jan of 2009/ That could be your problem. .47 has differences. Might ask Heather M. She is real good.

Open one of the files back up in Inkscape. Use Control A and look at the message bar at the bottom of the Inkscape window. What does it say? Does it say "1 object of type Path" or "2 objects of type Group, Rectangle/Path"?

Best guess is that the difference in how Ink47 handles text conversion is causing a problem. It groups text when you convert it to Path, and you must ungroup it before you can do any Path operations with it. Another change with Ink47 is that you must use any of the Path operations in the section with Path/Union to make a file SCAL can use correctly. HTH

Hi all,

OK - I just couldn't wait for the hour..... shower will have to wait!

You have solved my problem but I am not sure I understand why or how! I had a look with ctrl A and it said 1 object of type path.

I messed around a bit with Path - Object to Path and Path Union and at first when I imported into SCAL, it imported something rather strange but when I messed around again, it imported my page perfectly! I will have my shower now and then try to work out exactly what it is that i have to do but i really DO thankyou all for your help. The wordbook is for my brand new grandson who was born yesterday = that is why it is so important!!

Thanks again

Carol :D
