Welding troubles

I'm a total newbie to scal and I've been reading tutorials etc. I've figured out basic welding, as in a word but I'm wanting to make some lace (like KI memories) and I've designed it, clicked "weld" for everything but when I go to cut it out it only cuts what is outside of the rectangle. For example, it's snowflakes and I let the snowflakes hang over the edge thinking it would just cut the rectangle and what was in it...not so lol. Do I need inkscape to make paper lace?

If your snowflakes are completely inside the rectangle, don't use weld. Any part of a welded shape that is inside another shape will not cut. If your snowflakes are partly outside the rectangle you will need to use Inkscape. HTH

Umm, ok I think I understand but let me ask this then, lets say I'm making the lace and I'm only wanting half of a snowflake along the edge...anyway to do that or it needs to be the whole entire snowflake in there?

You can do either half...place the snowflakes along the edge. If you weld them, you will have a solid rectangle with snowflakes sticking out of the edge. If you don't weld them, the entire snowflake will cut and you will have a rectangle with half snowflakes removed from the edge.

I am having the hardest time wrapping my brain around this lol! Ok, now I tried with the snowflakes touching the edge and that didn't work, so I moved them in...which worked but just looks like a stencil or like a rectangle....maybe lace is better done in inkscape?

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to make, but probably so.

Thank you so much for your help, I'm just trying to make the paper lace like KI Memories makes.

You could do those directly in SCAL by just placing your shapes so that they overlap and without using a rectangle, but If you want a full sheet of it I would use Inkscape.
