Newbie - Inkscape Text to SCAL

I'm an experienced software professional.
I can't get text from Inkscape to SCAL. It comes out distorted.
I have:
specified inches for rulers and position feedback.
set the document size to 12" by 12".
"File/Inscape Preferences/'Import/Export'/Default export resolution" to 90 dpi
Placed the letters "A", "B", "C", "D" with their origin 1" inside the four corners.
Selected each character in turn and selected "Path/Object to Path"
Saved file under new name.
In SCAL:
"Edit/Preferences"
and on General tab where "SVG dpi" is asked
selected "90 (Inkscape)"
Imported SVG file.
Dimension reported was 1080" by 1080" (90*12 x 90*12) text was distorted
Note: I couldn't find any HELP on SCAL preferences dialog.
Q: What does "tut" mean?

You don't say if you are using Mac or Scal 1 or SCAL 2. If you are using scal 1 . it most likely because you have groups. SCAL 1. doesn't like groups. Anyone out there with suggestions?

I'm running Vista.

Hi Larry,
Well your first mistake was letting SCAL know that you were an experienced software professional. SCAL loves to scoff at ESPs and EGPs (experienced graphics professionals). LOL.
Your file has stumped me (I'm also an ESP, as well as a SCAL veteran) as well as crashing my brand new SCAL2 for Mac download.
Welcome to the family!
I would try ungrouping the file, just in case. That isn't supposed to matter in SCAL2, but it couldn't hurt.

I noticed that the only letter to "get through" is the letter "C".
This letter is topologically different than the others which have
interiors. Is that help any body? I'm going to try the
entire Alphabet.

I would guess that you probably have some bad (at least from a SCAL perspective) code in the file. I didn't see anything wrong with the file in Inkscape, so I selected your letters and copied them into a new file and saved that one with a new name. The new file worked fine in SCAL2. If you are feeling adventuresome, you could try to find what in the xml code is bad, but much faster to just copy into a new/clean file.
Another thought...What version of Inkscape are you using?

I'm using Inkscape 0.47
I first tried single letters which didn't work.
I recently tried the entire alphabet upper and lower and numbers
and was amused by how wierd the distortions of the text are.
I'm currently searching for a SVG viewer independent of SCAL and Inkscape
to verify integrity of SVG output.

Heather,
When you resaved the file, did you use Ink .46? If so then this looks like a .47 issue. I had lots of text problems with earlier releases of .47 but not this particular manifestation. If you resaved in .47 then I am really puzzled.

That's what I was wondering. I did use Ink46 to copy/paste the new file. After the kids are in bed I will make a new file using Ink47 and taking the file directly to SCAL2.
