I am new here and just learning how to create SVG's. I found a bunch of free vector files online and most were created in illustrator and Adobe photoshop. Is there a way to open them in Inkscape? I can download them but can't get them to open in Inkscape. Can someone help me? Thanks!

You can export from Illustrator to SVG. Check the "Save as..." or "Export..." menu. I don't have a current version of Illustrator so I don't know exactly where the item is, but I know you can export Illustrator files as SVG.

What is the file type? Inkscape should open .ai from AI 9.0 and above. It won't open .eps. There are a couple of options to convert them using only free programs.

One option is to use this online converter to convert the eps to pdf. http://convert.neevia.com/
This option will require the PDF to be opened in Inkscape and ungrouped/cleaned up for cutting.

Another option is described here, but I haven't tried it. http://chrisdown.wordpress.com/2007/12/ ... onversion/

I think there is an easier way if you have a mac.
