What am i doing wrong?

I am working on the flourish challenge and I can't get some of the items to join when I select union. I had to remove Inkscape and reload it cause I was getting these errors when I tried to do the linked offset. I am using Windows Vista if that matters.

I got it to work but still would love to know why I couldn't do it the first time

Did you combine some of the elements first? Did you have a checkerboard type of effect? If you did, check the fill settings that the shape that looks like a solid heart is selected rather than the one with the white center before you Union.

ok cool I will try that!!! I was just looking at those today and wondering what they did
