I need help with this svg!

Ok, so I made an svg, but I need help to get it to cut right. I tried doing the union thing, tried combining. What I want is for the mother to overlap the boxes it's in, but to make sure it cuts as one piece. I hope I am explaining this right. The way it looks right now, the "A", the "M" the "t" and the "h" will be cut off at the boxe lines. How do I do this? If I click on union it makes them go away which I don't want to do. Please help!

Are you cutting this with one color of vinyl? If you are then your best option would be to make a mat of the letters and weld that to the squares. Then select the words and the background and Path/exclusion. If you are using paper and want/are willing to use 2 colors, you could cut it separate and add the letters on the top with or without the matted background.
BTW you need to Path/Union on any of your letters that are touching, none of them are welded. If you are going to use Path/Union on the background you are also going to have to select both rectangles and use Path/Exclusion first.

I am cutting with one color vinyl. How do you make a "mat" of the letters? Sorry, I've never done this before. Whay do I want to do path/exclusion for the background? I'm a little confused. I'm not worried about the saying on the inside, the only thing I am having a problem with is the "A Mother" overlapping the squares and cutting off parts of the letters. When I weld it, it looks like this......It cuts off the bottom of the letters

Try this file. I offset the path of the letters instead of stroking them.

Talanhart, what you did was perfect, but I am still COMPLETELY lost on how you did this. Could you please give me a step-by-step so I know for the future?
Thank you so much for all of your help!

When I opened the file, the "A Mother" was stroked or outlined in Black. I removed the Stroke and offset the path of just those letters .020" and then filled that with Black. I also did a Union on the th and er and also the letters that needed it in hearts forever. From there, you just select everything filled in Black and do a Path Union. I did this in Illustrator. It might be a little different in Ink.

Does anyone use CorelDraw? My husband just got it for me. He says I will be able to do a lot more in that than inkscape, but I have NO idea how to do some of the simplest things, like removing the circle after putting text on it. In corel there is no,path/obect to path. It's kind of foreign to me but if I can do a lot more in it i would love to learn it. Also, is Illustrator very user friendly?

If Corel Draw is like Illustrator, you need to look under the fonts menu to convert the fonts to outlines or paths. In Illustrator its called Create outlines. In Corel I think its create curves. Make sure you have your text selected before creating paths or curves.
