Newbie here! So super excited that I found this website. I have the Cricut Design Studio and it works no problem for me. I just downloaded the trial version of SCAL and am excited to use it, yet when I click on to cut with my cricut, it says cricut machine could not be found. I have a cartridge in it, yet it's not cutting. Any tips for this newbie?!? Thank you!!!!

Welcome to the board. Wish I could help you. The only thing I can think of is the USB cord not connected but it has to be if you updated. I will not do any CDS updating until I am sure there will be no problems. I had too many when I did the update before this. I am sure that others will help you figure it out.. or you can email Todd.. Good Luck..

My guess is PC is starting to block SCAL with the updates

Here's a possible solution.

I do not have CDS and I am running the full version of SCAL. I had the same problem. I did as the instructions for CDS say: I installed the trial version of CDS, then plugged my Cricut into the computer. It said it found new hardware and had installed the drivers, but when I went to update the firmware in CDS, it couldn't find the cricut.

I don't expect this solution to work for many people, but it's worth checking out. My computer is kind of old and bahaves strangely from time to time, so this might not be the solution for everyone. If you're not really comfortable with messing around with the workings of Windows, you may want to have someone who is do this for you.

Each USB port has a name (e.g., COM 1). I renamed the COM port I had plugged the USB cable into. For some reason, it was named COM 15. I renamed it COM 3, since that was a low number not currently in use. That did it. The next time I tried to update the firmware, it worked. I think CDS looks only in COM 1-3 or something. It's not expecting to find it in COM 15.

To rename COM ports in Windows XP: Openi My Computer, right click in a blank area in the window, choose Properties, choose the Hardware tab, click Device Manager, expand Ports, right click the port you want to rename, click Properties, click the Port Settings tab, click advanced, then choose a new COM Port number using the drop down menu at the bottom of the window. Be sure to choose one that's not in use. Then click OK.

Windows or Mac? If it's a windows machine I would take a guess it has something to do with the USB ports on your computer or even your USB cable. I have a hard time believing that PC is going to be able to do something that would disallow you to use SCAL software yet still use CDS. If you have your Cricut working with CDS, then there should be no reason that it can't work with SCAL.

SO i switched it to the back of the laptop, it says everything is ready to be used etc. no luck. neither CDS or SCAL would cut.

When I use CDS, it says on my cricut screen "USB Connected...." then does nothing :(

When I use SCAL it just says cricut not found.

I had the same problem. Mine was solved by making sure my Cricut was turned on before I opened SCA.
