Hi, all, Have only had my Cricut Expression for 2 weeks and have been having a ball with the carts I also purchased. Just loaded SCAL and have been impressed with how easy it is to use. Here's the *dumb* part: I really love many of my cart images -- is there any way they can be converted to be cut in SCAL?? TIA, Judy

I have wondered this, too. I wanted to alter a gift bag more than the machine would allow. So I had to find a .svg that I could manipulate in SCAL instead of using the one on my cartridge. Wasted a lot of time.
To answer your question, I don't think so (at least not legally *smile*). You have to have their DesignStudio. You can find it on Ebay for about $20 though.

You would have to scan the image and Inkscape it to turn it into an SVG file to cut with SCAL. There is a web site with all the Cricut hand books on it so if I want an image, I print and scan the page, inkscape what I want and cut it in SCAL

Lindamac, no need to print and scan the pages. They can be imported directly into Inkscape. Some that I have seen are already vectors, and don't even need to be traced, just ungrouped.

Heather, How would I get the image from the cartridge to an image in my computer to import into Inkscape?? (Told you I was a newbie. ) TIA, Judy

If you have the cartridge, you could cut the shape from black paper and scan it. There are also places where the handbooks are posted. There are some here. http://forums.surecutsalot.com/viewtopi ... 78&p=15631 There are others out there as well. Once you have the files, you can import them into Inkscape. Some need to be traced, and some pdf files are already vectors and and just need to be ungrouped and saved as individual pieces.

Wow! Thanks for the link to download the cart handbooks. I understand how to copy a page into Ink and how to trace bitmat by color and separate the layers. I know how to break apart/combine, however, the images being white poses a problem. How do you get a clear svg from one of these pages? Thanks for any help and advice !
