Why has my expression just starting to cut lines through the first part of the designs and not the rest? Help please

It can be several things:

(1) Make sure SCAL still seems to be registered. Go to Help>About and verify you see your name and reg number.
(2) Could be a faulty USB cable
(3) Could be just a case of random cutting which is very difficult to diagnose. Close and reopen SCAL. Place a single basic shape like a circle on the mat and then cut it. Does the same thing happen?

Thought of a 4th:

(4) Sometimes when cutters get old. the data cable or something part is defective. This can lead to the blade holder staying down when it should be in the up position.
