Need help with Inkscape on my Mac

I just bought a MacBook Pro yesterday and I'm all ready to get things switched over! I downloaded Inkscape, but when I go to open it, the message says: "While Inkscape is open, its windows can be displayed or hidden by displaying or hiding the X11 application. The first time this version of Inkscape is run it may take several minutes before the main window is displayed while font caches are built."
What am I doing wrong and what do I need to do--I'm going to die if I have to run my bootcamp everytime I want to do something with SCAL or Ink.
THANKS!!!

I have a MAC as well. I noticed that it takes a while for the program to open. Just wait it out and a new project will open up. Not sure why the lag thought maybe because it doesn't come with any loading screen so we know it's still going type of deal.

Do you have X11 installed? I had the same issue and X11 was not installed BUT was on my original install disc (found this out from the Apple site).
So after installing the X11--everything worked fine. It does take a while to load the first time. Good luck.

Here's a link that tells all about x11, etc.
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/InstallHelp
Unfortunately there is not a native install build for Mac yet. It is rumored to be forthcoming, though, and hopefully we will get a more mac-like interface then. In the meantime, its really not that bad for a free program. Just can't use the alt shortcuts.

Thank you guys so much, I knew there was a simple fix, but I just didn't know what it was

My hubby decided that after buying our THIRD laptop tonight, (long story) that we will keep a windows run one stictly for my SCAL projects (when time permits). I am going to download X11 and hope that works and will edit my post to show that it does
EDIT:
K, after running through some research on X11 (what it is, where I can download it, etc) I found out that if you have a new Macbook, it already comes with it. After I tried downloading X11 it said I couldn't install it because It's already on my system--so that just confirms that it does come with it already.
Now to opening the program--it still won't open. When you say it takes a while how long is a while? I've been trying this for hours! I do mean hours, I don't let my laptop sleep or turn it off manually...I think it's insane to wait hours, so please tell me that I'm not crazy.
I think I've done what I can and am still not certain what the problem is...I guess it's a good thing we decided to keep around a Windows Laptop...althought I hate Windows...
SECOND EDIT
I GOT IT!! I am ready to admit to

and

I had to open X11 then, I opened Inkscape--NO PROBLEMS!! Finally--yay!!
