.scut is the native format that SCAL opens. If someone created a file using a dingbat and you don't have the dingbat installed on your computer, you will only see the letter they typed for the dingbat, you won't see the actual design.
If someone imported a .svg file and saved it as a .scut file, you will only get a blank file. I don't have any details re: the MAC since I am using XP.
