Does anyone know where I can find a backpack shape? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I love to use coloring pages to do applique on t-shirts etc. If I find a coloring page I need to somehow move it into inkscape(which I downloaded on my computer) and it will convert it to svg. Here is an example I like. http://www.preschoolcoloringbook.com/co ... nks9.shtml Will it cut on the black lines, or will it cut just the outside of the figure? I can't figure out how to move the image into inkscape. On a separate note, I cannot figure out how to actually pull an image out of a downloaded font on my computer. It won't allow me to highlight and drag the images I see in the font (or dingbat)

You need to either copy and paste the page into Inkscape, or save it as an image file and import it into Ink. Once you have it in Ink, either use the Path/Trace bitmap or paint bucket tool to get a vector graphic. Which one is better depends on if you want a paper piecing with a background, or if you just want the inside of the shapes. The trace bitmap option traces both sides of every line, so you will have to break the image apart (Path/Break apart) and separate the pieces for cutting. There are some good tutorials available.

To use fonts in Inkscape, you can set your default font with the capital T at the top of the window and then use the Capital on the left to place text into your document. You can also just use the text button on the side and then change the text afterward. Don't forget to convert your text to path once you have what you want.

It is a good idea to view Inkscape files in outline mode before you are done to confirm what lines will cut in SCAL.

I see what you mean about outline mode. My turkey still needs some work. My idea is to have my cut be right on the bold line of the picture, not on each side of the line. I will try the paint tool to see if I can get it to look like what I want. Thanks for replying to my multiple posts.

I'm sure there are others, these are just two that I knew about.

Did you select the trace and then Path/Break apart? Watch the message bar at the bottom of the Inkscape window for what you have selected. It will say Path when your trace is selected. It will also tell you why things won't work sometimes.

Sometimes traces have broken lines, and then the break apart won't work, you have to connect the lines first.
