PDF in Inkscape

Here I am again. I always seem to need some help. I have read, in several posts, that I could bring a PDF file into Inkscape. I have tried everything. I have tried to import it, I have tried to open it, and I have tried to paste it in. Whatever I do it freezes Inkscape. Does anyone have a solution? Thank you so much if you do. What I have had to do is open the PDF in a photo editing program, save it as a BMP, and then open that up in Inkscape. I was hoping to be able to make the process shorter.

Does this only happen with one particular PDF file or all of them? I haven't had any trouble with PDF files, but I have heard of others that have problems. If you cannot use a pdf to extract vectors (and some pdfs just have bitmaps anyway, btw) you can shorten the process by just taking a screen shot of the open pdf and pasting that into Inkscape.

It happens with all of them. I had tried the 'screen shot' process once and it did work, so I am thinking, from what you said, that I may have to use that process. Thanks for getting back with a suggestion so quickly.
