I am in inkscape, of course, and I am tring to do a simple square with its tool. I draw from corner to corner, like it says to do in the manual, and low a behold a square forms with dotted lines. Well at least I thought, as soon as I tap outside of the square, anywhere, my square disappears. What am I doing wrong? I thought maybe if I use the fill button it would then work, but instead I get a circle. I am soooo comfused. I hope someone can help......
Thanks

Are you using the button 5th down on the left? Something to try is to do a select all, either from the edit menu or press control A. See if anything shows up.

I find I like to do the outline view rather than normal. Maybe this will help.....

Maybe the opacity for the shape is set to nearly invisible. Click in the white area and press Ctrl A to select everything on the page. Do you see your shape selected? If so, from the menu, click Object -> Fill and Stroke. That brings up color properties for the object. The Fill tab should be active as well as the RGB tab under Flat Color. If they are not, make them be so (just click). There are 4 color bands, the last is labeled A. If the A is 0 or near 0, the opacity level for that shape is nearly invisible. Slide the black vertical arrows toward the right or enter 255 in the text box beside the A color ribbon to deepen the opacity so you can see your shape. You can play with the other color ribbons too to get other effects.
You're not done here yet. Now look below the color ribbons in the Fill and Stroke panel to the Opacity, % under Blur. Move the slide all the way to the right if it is not already there, or enter 100 in the text box.
If color was the problem, you should be able to see and move the object around now. If this doesn't work, try starting over. Get a new document, draw your shape, if you can't see it, select all (Ctrl A) and check the color properties. HTH

What was the problem and what did you do to fix it? Your answer could be useful for someone who might have the same problem in the future.
I'm really glad you resolved the problem!

I am also having the same problem where my box that I make disappears. I went through and changed the things on on that wreed said to change but it's still disappearing. Any ideas on what else can be done to fix this?
Thanks!
