Newbie needs PNC Help (Eclips/eCAL)

I am new to eCAL/Eclips and have never did PNC. I am trying to use a multicolored picture from the internet that I captured via my snipping tool. I have attached both .jpg and .png files that I have been fighting with for hours, both last night and the afternoon. I have worked in both eCAL and MTC (which I am more familiar with as I just recently purchased my Eclips). My first attempt was looking good, beautiful copy, aligned the lazers, but forgot the "mat" layer and my image was beginning to look like a puzzle until I stopped the cutting!
The only way I know to create the "mat" layer is to make a shadow and I can't. I tried dupicating my image, then applied the shadow to one of them. It just smeared the colors around. I can't even describe it in eCAL terms. If anyone can help me by stearing me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. I don't like to routinely ask for help because I want to learn and trial and error is a good learing tool. But I've been trying and erroring (is that a word?) for hours now. I think I am so confused, that if I got it to work, I wouldn't even know what I did right!
Sorry about the big pictures--I don't even know how to post small ones or just the unopened file. It's a sneaker that will be stomping on a spider. The inside will have an inkspot shape with the word "Splat". My son-in-law was bit by a spider and got very sick from it. Ended up in the hospital for a two-hour antibiotic infusion and is now taking 15 pills a day. He'll be OK and he has a great sense of humor so I thought he'd get a good laugh!
