updating cricut firmware on mac? HELP!!!

I have an new cricut expression and it has firmware 2.0 on it. If i am reading everything correctly, you need to have firmware 2.1 in order to use scal.
The only way to update is to use the Cricut design studio software. According to Design Studio site, its not available for mac! Does this mean I cannot use scal?
How do i update my Cricut???
I will be way bummed if i cannot use scal!!!
any advice appreciated!

a little research later....

I can update my cricut v2.0 from my daughters windows laptop.
ok thats all good.
But I heard the update is not version 2.1 , its 2.3something.
Where an i find the 2.1 update?
