I currently have a baby Cricut and SCAL2. I have been looking for a larger cutting machine. I was looking at the Cameo. I see where I would need to purchase SCAL 3 to go with it. My question is does this machine use the svg files? I have a lot of them since I use them with the Cricut. Would I be able to use the ones I have with the Cameo and SCAL 3?

The machine itself doesn't use any files, it does what the software tells it to. So the better question is, does the cameo software use svgs? The answer is, no, the software that COMES WITH IT doesn't. However, they sell an upgraded version that can use svgs. My understanding is it costs around $50. SCAL 3 can also import svgs and the cost is similar, but is, in my opinion, a better, more versatile program. I have a silhouette and am not impressed with the native software and don't use it.

Since you have scal2, you are eligible (or should be) for a free upgrade to scal3.

I have a Silhouette SD and I use SCAL3 to cut svg files. SCAL3 is way better than the Silhouette program. Only use the Silhouette software when I am cutting studio or gsd formatted files.

But do you need to use the Silhouette software to get registration marks for print & cut?

I'm getting tired of futzing around with the Cricut trying to get P&C accurate. With the Cameo having proper optical registration, it becomes much more tempting.

Hi I just got my cameo & if you bought Scal 2 the upgrade to 3 is free. You get the design studio with the cameo but to upgrade to the studio that cuts svg is about 50.00 US. But if you have scal 3 you do not need the upgrade. I used my svg files I have already & the cut beautifully with scal 3. The cuts are so much better on the cameo. I always had to cut SU c/s twice with CE, but with the cameo only once on 5 for the blade setting & the cuts are so much cleaner.
Here is a LO I did using the studio that came with the cameo & studio files.

Jasen yes you do but the program that comes with the cameo for free does that. I already tested it & it worked like a charm.

Is there a forum for Silhouette support? I've been playing around with the standard software and have a few questions.
