Haven't installed SCAL 2 for use with Cricut

Hi! I'm new here, but I know that PC is suing CE (and it saddens me because I look at SCAL as a way to encourage me to use my Cricut more, not take away business from PC.) I was just wondering if anyone had advice about if it's safe for me to install SCAL 2 now and use it with my Cricut. I just recently installed Design Studio on my laptop and have version 1.0.4022.0, if that means anything. My thought, if there was any possibility of a conflict, was to load SCAL on my desktop with the trial version of DS (if that'll work at this point) and keep DS alone on my laptop, where I was planning on using it most. If I can use SCAL on the same computer as my full version of DS, that's what I would prefer.
Any help would be very much appreciated! I'm a nervous nelly about losing use of DS, but I also really want to use SCAL!!!!

If you already "own" SCAL2 you may use it.

As long as you own it already you can use it. But have you already updated the firmware? I maybe off base but I think that if you update the frimware that PC has a glitch in it so that you can't use scal. I am hearing on another forum not to update. So that is what I am doing until I can afford another cutter!

I already own SCAL 2, just hadn't installed it and I thought I had heard that the firmware from PC was causing problems with using SCAL, but I wasn't sure if that meant that I wouldn't be able to use it at all or that it would mess up my DS...I'm just trying to see if there's a way for me to use it without causing problems or if I should just try and auction it off or something...

I can tell you if you have firmware version on your cricut of 2.34 it will work with scal
as far as messing things up who Knows I believe it is all trial and error at this point and I have not heard of anyone on either side of the fence being brave enough to try it

Just an update. My friend that I scrap book with had her expression with her this past weekend and we updated her firmware just fine using the DS trial version. She was then able to cut from my computer. If you never updated the firmware, you must run the update 2 times (it tells you to do this) and you will get 2.34 firmware.

i have firmware 2. 34 on my Expression and i run both programs on the same computer. I have not planned on updating with all the issues but I don't need to either. My E does all my little brain can do. I don't use DS much. I don't have many carts either since i discovered SCAL so therefore i haven't updated DS either. But it is full version. HTH
