Hi Everyone,

I am very confused. I just got SCAL. Updated the firmware on my expression so now its at 2.3 - only to find that that isn't compatible. How do I get it to a firmware version that will work? I downloaded the trial version of Cricut Design Studio so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
Any info anyone could provide would be most appreciated!

I am also confused.. In the news thread the Admin says

If you did, you should be able to use the older version of Design Studio to put the older 1.1 or 2.1 firmware back on your Cricut.

Has this been verified? if so where can one get this earlier version? Also my experience with electronics is it is not usually that easy.. Has anyone successfully downgraded the Cricut FW?

EDIT: Ok i was able to downgrade the FW using the CDS from the http://www.hallmarkscrapbook.com/downlo … taller.exe

At this point, you will have to uninstall DSS, install the earlier version (link provided below for the download), and then do a firmware update. Firmware updates seem to be software dependent...when you update firmware it is for the version of the software installed. The earlier version of the software should make the firmware 2.1 for the E.

I have already bought and paid for the full version of DS. I screwed up and downloaded the new version of DS from PC, hoping that it would have the new cartridges that I just bought only to have to update the firmware (No new carts) and now I can't cut with SCAL. If I reinstall will it let me activate again and be able to use the full version DS?? Please advise..I am so new to this!!

I had to uninstall/reinstall once when I did an update to DSS and I had no problem. The software was still activated.

I think it is a shame we have to jump thru hoops to use the software. I had to format my hard drive on my desktop and, of course, my software is not activated and I don't think I am going to go thru the hassle. If I ever use it again, I will have to use my laptop.

AnointedHands if your SCAL software is not authorized, you can authorize it again. If you don't have your number, send an email to Todd and he'll send you a number you can use. I've had to do that twice because I wanted SCAL on a second machine, and another time because my harddrive crashed and I had to use another one.

Had no problem with SCAL...it is DSS. My desktop version is running in the Trial Mode.

I feel confident that SCAL will update their software to handle the latest firmware from DS. I read somewhere that even DS wasn't happy with the firmware - it was causing problems there too. I suspect when those problems are worked out, SCAL will have the software handle that firmware. Someone suspected that DS was trying to block SCAL. I think that's bunk. I think the cartridges are getting a little more sophisticated and DS is showing images of cartridges now that made them upgrade the firmware. I'm sure it'll all get settled, hopefully soon.
