I am new to SCAL and have scanned the boards for an answer to my question but I have not read each post completely so if my questions has already been answered, please forgive me....I'll run into that post at some point in my learning.
Question:
Back in the old days (sometimes referred to as dark ages), when we purchased software there would be a manual explaining things that you could read as you experimented along. Nowdays we have tutorials. I am old and can't remember everything I see in a tutorial. Is there a manual somewhere that I can download and reference? I find it cumbersome to have to keep going back and forth on the tutorials to find an answer.

Also on another note....my sister did what I consider to be an advanced project trying to help me make valentines for the grandkids. When I try to work in that svg she created, my computer is so slow it takes forever to move the shape around on the virtual mat. Is that because of the svg she made? When I was working last night just using basic shapes it seemed to move quick enough.

There is alittle about the basics in scal in the help menu but that is all that I am aware of but there is always some one here or not too far away to answer any questions or help you out when ever you need it, So don't be afraid to call out when you need too we all started some where.

As far as your program working slower with the valentine it could have been that there were alot of nodes in that svg but without seeing it it is kinda hard to say for sure

What I've recently started doing is, I watch a tutorial once, then re-watch the same tutorial and take notes in a notebook so that I have them to refer to at any given time. Then I go into inkscape or SCAL2 and try it out for myself. I guess you could say I'm creating my own manual.

I do the same as far as taking notes, but I also jot down the site address so that I can refer back to watch again if needed.

If you click on the help tab, you can select a topic and there is an option to print that page. It would take a little work, but you could put together a manual.

I am so glad to hear that I am not alone with the learning curve. Several of the tasks are similar enough that I have to re-watch the tutorial to be clear as to their function. Have decided to try and copy photo stills with a short description and print out myself.

If you click on the help tab, you can select a topic and there is an option to print that page. It would take a little work, but you could put together a manual.

If you open the Help tab the entire manual is there and fairly recent, not all the new features but certainly enough for the newbie to work with.

The manual opens in Adobe Reader for me and I can and did print the whole thing in one long print and put it into a binder and then as I learned I made notes on the pages. I like manuals. I love video's but they are harder to reference so both have a place.

I had the "manual" question also a long time ago and recently (yes it took me a wile to cave in) went to You Tube and did a SCAL search and wow some really neat stuff. Learned about what the "Weld" did and have been having a ton of fun with that feature. Now I'm surfing You Tube to learn more stuff..

I do the rewatching, taking notes, and also copy and paste pictures, and anything I can.

i have to refer to those things everytime i got the change to make a card
