I was wondering if anyone has used contact paper to make a stencil for painting on a wall and if it removes easily? I need to make a few stencils for a room that I'm painting and I don't want to "waste" my good vinyl if I can use contact paper which is cheaper and easier to get. Thanks for any input you may have!

Amy, I would not use Contact paper on the wall. I used it for a decal for my car and it has been there for almost a year. I think it would take the paint off.

What might work would be to not take the backing off and use blue painter tape to attach it to the wall tho. That might work just fine.

I'll be anxious to hear how it works.

I haven't used it as a stencil, but I have used contact paper as a transfer tape on my walls with no problems (eggshell finish on the paint and not fresh paint). Maybe do a small test somewhere if you are unsure?

You can buy the cheapy sticky back vinyl paper from the dollar place that will come off easily.. I also bought a big roll of contact paper form Walmart for 10 bucks.. I bought a frosted look one for the same price as well ..

JoAnne, where did you find the frosted contact paper? I want to cut some snowflakes for the windows and all I can find is crystal clear and white.

My Walmart doesn't have any either, but I know a while back I saw it my local home depot. Maybe try there.

Thanks Syl. I looked at Target, Lowes, Dollar Tree, and Walmart, but not at Home Depot. I'll look there next weekend.

I buy mine at Meijers.

Todd, is that clear or frosted contact paper?
