Hi everyone,

Well I have just completed designing this frame, I have tried it out and I am delighted to say that it scans well, cuts well and looks even better if after you cut the frame you shadow the image and cut that out too. I used pearlescent card and put the blade to 4, speed 5 and presure 4 for the cleanest cut. You do need to be careful with pearlescent as it can peel back and show too much white as the pearlescent colour is just a top layer.
I hope that you like it and can make use of this image in your projects.

In the dumb question category...now what? I love the design and am ready to cut a Thank you card, but I'm unclear as to what to do next. Do you find flowers to embellish the cut? sorry to seem dense but a pic of a finished card would be great.

I'm pretty good at the technical stuff but am awed by the creativity of you all since my stuff never has the artistic quality I want so I'm stuck with making my cards with all the creative help I can get.

You can try to add Primas over the flowers but not completely cover the flower part of the cut so that can look like a shadow and give some dimension.

Thank you all for your positive feed-back. I can assure you that I for one, am no great artist, on paper or on computer graphics programms so, I too, am in awe of the wonderful designs wreed and anointedhands create. Thank you wreed for uploading my images onto the forum as I do not know how to do this.

Unfortunately I have not yet had the chance to make up a finished card using this frame but it was very easy to create a shadow of the design in the scal software in a contrasting colour to the main image just make sure you cut the design first then without changing the dimensions create a shadow of the image and then mat together. Now the flowers and foliage I used came from a free fonts called 'IM FELL FLOWERS 2' so if you have this font in your SCAL library You can size and cut the leaf, flowers and four leaf clover (which I used as the filler) and then add them to your image for extra dimension. For the vase I just used the circle image in the inscape software but if you look through your SCAL library under basic shapes I would think that you would be able to adapt one of those to mat over the vase. Hi Papasue,

I have now designed and made a thank you card incorporating the 'vase of flowers in a frame' image with flowers embelishments cut and pasted, literally, from the 'IM FELL FLOWERS 2' font. I have scanned it into the Inkscape programe and saved it as an 'svg' file. When you open the file click on the 'open' button option and hopefully you will be able to see my completed card.

Fiona, I'm excited to see it but unfortunately Inkscape comes up with a big red x and says link not found. SCAL imports a blank.

If you have the time would you try again.

I did use the "thank you" card, worked great. I have a lot of thank you's coming up so when you get it done I'll be sure and try it and show you what I did.

I have tried to change the scanned jpeg image into a svg file but because of the different colours used, even though I changed it to outline the the file is apparently to big and will not upload.


NB. I have now zipped the files for the finished card...two versions.
and These are they, I hope that you have success in opening the files now. I trust that you have the facility to unzip files, if you download fonts I am sure you will have.

Once you have seen my finished thank you weld card with the vase and flowers frame and embellishmets I would love to see, if you should like to have a go, your finished card using these elements.... it would be interesting to see how many different interpertations of the same elements we can come up with.

I used to watch Watercolour Challenge and it was always fascinating how four people (astists) could see the same scene so differently.
