Recently I bought the Martha Stewart medallion punch. It is a great shape (which is why I bought it, even though I don't often buy punches anymore). It is horrible. Punching it is really hard, you pretty much have to put it on the table and press as hard as you can. The edges are somewhat raggedy, and worst of all, the paper sticks and doesn't come out! Sometimes it doesn't even punch the whole design right and then the paper gets stuck in the punch too. I tried doing the tin foil/wax paper thing but it didn't really help. I've decided it's not worth the $17 I paid for it (and that was on sale, regular $25) for all the aggravation and the fact it doesn't even work properly. I was wondering if someone could make an svg of it because it is a really cool shape. I've attached a pic, sorry it's not the greatest but it's all I could find. It's fairly simple (I think) so hopefully that should help. It might be able to just be traced, but I think it probably needs more than that to be a clean shape and clean cut.

In my humble opinion and not really wanting to start a "fire storm" but I believe that it is a violation of COPYRIGHT to reproduce ANY product that someone, including MARTHA, has as a product for sale!

If you can figure out how to replicate HER design for a scut file and use it for your own purpose then more power to you.

Forgive me today I'm particularly testy, but I do believe that any image or product that is "sold" should not be converted and distributed. Just my opinon.

If you are enabler and disagree with me please send her the converted file "privately"

I totally agree with papasue.. and trust me they will track it down... We had an innocent little image here posted a few months ago and the original designer managed to track it as being posted on here and yep we got quite an earful....lol

Thanks JoAnne, I sometimes feel "alone" in my pursuit of copyright protection, be it Martha, ProvoCraft, Disney or even STAMPIN Up. Just say NO to enabling copyright violations.

to CARE - I apologize for making your request and my response seem like a slam against you. It was not meant to be since you are obviously unaware of the copyright issues. It is the enablers who respond to your request and and post the resultant file that violate the copyright of others that this is intended to address. I hope that someone will answer your request and send you what you want through a PM and that you will use the file for your own personal use.

Funny thing is I found an EXACT duplicate of one of the files HE claimed. It was in a book from 1956!
I didn't call him on it,because I didn't want to cause trouble. There are bound to be things like this
happening. People take an image and change a football to a baseball, or a cat into a dog and then
claim the whole image is their property!

So how are we suppose to post ANY svg file without fear of getting slammed for it? Just about every image online belongs to someone. Even a simple color book page. I feel as if the copyright issue has gone way too far. But that's jmho, not trying to make anyone mad. There's just such a fine line, that someone shouldn't get bent over one image, yet not another.

Did you know that fonts have copy rights. This one I copied from a download and notice you aren't supposed to use it in other forms. Such as svg's? Some have limited warrantys and other say use for personal use but note the highlited part of this warranty. Says? Now my question is where do we start and stop. For me I make my own and stopped sharing because don't want to get caught.

It's because Martha Stewart is a big name in designs.. like Disney... those are the ones that are licensed.. I worked in a fabric store and we were not allowed to carry fabrics by Disney because they were licensed out to specific companies just like Martha Stewart. They are exclusive licenses... It's best to avoid confrontation to companies like that.. Imagine posting recreations of their designs?? I wouldn't chance it..

I was thinking about this post last night.

I was wondering... about some of the fonts. And dingbats. The free ones, are free: not sure about that... But what about the ones that you pay for?

This is my educated guess. I would have to say that EVERYTHING is fine for personal use, and even sharing. As long as you don't sell it, and make money off it; and as long as you don't claim it as your own...

I think that if the original poster manipulates it just a bit, maybe even by size only??? I don't know...

I love making cards, I don't sell them or anything... I like using other people's ideas, and putting my own twist on it. Sometimes I don't even put my own twist on it. Nobody ever really asks: if I am the sole creator of this... And if they do, I can say, "yes, I cut this out on my cricut using SCAL software"...

All in all, there's really no reason for anybody to get all bent about it. This is a MB for creative people to come together and share ideas, and techniques and even designs.

So basically we are probably all in some way or another, violating somebody's copywright... There are a lot of images on the world wide web, and this SCAL software is great, because now you can trace!

I think we should keep things on more of a "happy tone" here in this forum. If you don't agree with what somebody is doing, look the other way, or look at a different post.

So that's my $.02...

I know this thread after I read it made me cautious to post anything anymore. I cant tell you where I have gotten all my files from. After I received my scal 2 for Christmas I was bitten by the bug hard and was grabbing files left and right . Having such a good time creating and even posting on here. No malice ever intended. Just having a wonderful time.
I also will admit to trying to take that file she posted and take it to scal 2 and trace it to give it to her. Of course it doesn't produce a good trace with the outer circle around it. I was going to suggest she take it to inkscape if she knew how to erase the outer circle and then save it . I never thought bout that being a no no.
I agree with Shelly. I hope this site stays upbeat and friendly as I have always found it to be. I felt for this lady after her post and the reply she was given because I know how I would have felt.
One more example is a fancy cut box. If I recall the comment was why not just purchase that sample a site was selling then you can scan it a share it. I think the same thing bout a cupcake wrapper. I for one grabbed the files after posted and was thrilled with them. I guess if its a file I don't personally create I cant share or post it on here. Guess I need to learn alot more but I do thank the generous people who have been so helpful and friendly and made this such a fun new hobby. I appreciate you.
