Now this sounds interesting I will be keeping my ears open - Hoping for more info. scrappy_happy_moms wrote:This is what I have been reading.....
Provo is determined to block SCAL - Period.....
If you want their updates you will not be able to use SCAL....
I have heard that they have even gone so far to hire a new software developer....
There is a cutting machine out there that everyone knows that gets RAVE reviews... they are making their software compatable and testing it on the Cricut.... so what that means is that once they are done working out the kinks.. you can purchase this other software and it will let you cut straight to the Cricut......
And there will be no need for a middle program... so there will be no need to use inkscape...this program has all the bells and whistles... you can design, weld, mat, even auto trace straight from this one program....
It uses a well know extension - so all the stores and such that sell cutter files will have a ton of these files available AND there are 1000's of free files in this format already out there on the web.....
BUT here is the issue - I don't know when it is going to be released. They thought they were almost ready and then they found a glitch - so they are working on that now.... (at least that is what I am being told).
This company has really good customer service but they have been known to push back release dates to make sure that the software is 110% compatible before it is released!!!
Maybe thats what they have up their sleeve??
All I know is I love my SCAL and I could care less about DS

Any news on this? I want to buy a cutting machine and am leaning toward the Cricut Expressions, but not if PC is going to hose SCA's ability to work with the Cricut. You really have my interest piqued.

Don't know about the new software, but SCAL is fixed. You can update your DS and also run SCAL. To be honest I, and if the number of posts on the Cricut mb are any indication, am having trouble with the update of DS. I get random cuts in the middle of my pictures. Or some of the cuts don't match up. For instance, I had the letter A and it counldn't seem to get the center cut out even though it wasn't a blackout. I haven't had any trouble with the SCAL update.
