I notice that the old books you used to be able to enlarge them on screen and still get perfect quality image - it was great when paper piecing some of the Disney carts so you could see what some of the little pieces were for, but now you get a very pixelated view which isn't very good - and of course that will make it a rougher image to import into Inkscape.

I use a screen capturing program called SnagIt. It's not free, but I can select any portion of the screen I want and do some editing on the image. I used it in my last job (now laid off) and I found uses for it at home.
