I've wondered the same. I'll bet it works great - I'll have to try sometime.

With SCAL 2, a convention is appearing to put score lines in one of the layers. You turn off the cut layer, run the score layer with an old blade turned upside down. Then put a cutting blade in, turn on the cut layer, turn off the score layer, and cut the shape.
Using Inkscape (or some other drawing program) it is possible to create dashed lines that will cut as score lines, but that's a bit of an advanced topic.

Hi - I use Inkscape to add scores lines - very easy to do. Then I save the score lines as a separate .svg so that I can import it into SCAL as a separate layer. Then to "cut" the score lines, I put the depth of my blade to 1 and the pressure to 1 (or 2 depending on the sharpness of the blade and thickness of the paper) and do a cut with just the score lines. Then I reset the pressure and depth of the blade and cut again using the next layer that has the object I want to cut on it.
Note: If you want to do multiple cuts (such as score lines, marker outlines, etc.) on the same piece of paper with the same placement, you do not need to unload and re-load the mat, or position the blade back to the starting point. Just leave the blade right where it stops after it finishes the first cut. When SCAL goes to make the next cut, it will start with the same starting point, keeping everything properly lined up.
