Holy Snapping Turtles!!!! Are you serious? OMG This is opening up yet another whole new world for me, I've just spent the last few days whining because you can't get a true 12" border for your layouts on the 6 x 12 mats, OMG OMG OMG Off to the store tomorrow to get me a 12 x 24

If this does work and you cut a 12" x 24" mat in half, instead of removing the stickiness on the one side of the mat, you might try running a piece of masking tape along the edge. Just a thought.

I am sure the girls do not literally mean "in half" they would be smart enough to cut the board to fit the bug. This is such a great idea I love all the new use for my baby bug with SCAL. I am such a happy MAC and SCAL user.

No, it really is in half unless you want to throw half of the mat away. One issue with doing this is that the mat is slightly narrower than a 6x12. This makes the grid on the mat wrong. The easiest way around this is to use a marker and make a line down the new center of the mat and use it to center the paper.

The other big issue is the hole in the mat for hanging is now through the edge of the mat. Just make sure to put it on the end away from the bug. Also, you end up with one square corner and one rounded corner.

WOW! I'm so glad I could finally contribute. I haven't even tried yet myself because AC Moore and Michaels were out of the 12x24 mat - but I cant wait to try. Thanks for all your input!

I've used this technique to save my mats and I'm sure you could use it to make your own mats. You just put tape around the edge where you don't want it to be tacky, then you get the all purpose sprey can crafting glue and you sprey a light coat of glue on the mat and let it sit for at least 5 min. If you apply something too early it will be permanently attached, but if you wait until it "drys" then it will just be tacky and you can put on and take off the material you are cutting. This can be done to re"tack" a mat, create a mat, or make a "tackier" mat. Hope this helps.

THAT is very clever. Now, if I could just figure out how to cut a 12X12 scallop shape on my personal--I'd be set for life!
