Tile alternatives?

I got the wood blocks at a local party store, you can see on my blog the original item it was before I decorated it, it was a box art with a print on the front which I just covered with scrapbook paper . Take a look and you might be able to find them at a dollar store or something like that.

The platters are perfectly functional. Think cupcakes, etc. They are handwashable or top rack dishwasher safe. Of course it would take up the whole upper rack, so hand washing only makes sense.
