You don't need to use inkscape to weld any more! This can all be sone in SCAL now!

There is an easier way to do this in Inkscape.
1. Type your word or phrase in one text box.
2. Position the cursor between the first set of letters you would like to weld and press option + any arrow to move the letters as desired (shift-option-arrow moves in bigger increments). Repeat for each set of letters until letters are overlapping slightly for weld as desired.
3. Click Path>Union. Inkscape will convert the text to path and weld all in one step.

To shadow this. control d to duplicate, then path>outset or path>dynamic offset. If you use dynamic offset, you need to convert to path before saving for export.

I really need help. I have been trying to weld a word in Inkscape for the past 2 hours with no success.

I have tried typing out the words, selecting them, then clicking Path, Object to Path (as seen in the Scrappydew video) several times but
the program refuses to make the words a path.

I tried the instructions above, typing a letter, then selecting the text tool and typing the next letter. When I try to select a letter individually
I cannot. The program will only select everything as a group.

Please help. I am beyond frustrated and I am really not technologically challenged but this program is making me feel really stupid.

The easiest way to do this in Inkscape is to type your title, and then without clicking anywhere else, use your arrow key to move the cursor between the letters, then use Alt and the arrow keys to change the spacing or Alt and the [ or ] to rotate the letters. It isn't necessary to use Path/Object to path, just use Path/Union after you get all of your letters how you want them.

If you already have clicked off the text, make sure the text is selected, then select the text tool (Capital A on the left). The cursor should appear at the end of the text.

You can also place the cursor in a specific spot. Make sure the text isn't selected, then click on the text tool. Move the cursor over the text until it turns into an I beam and the text has a blue box around it. Click where you want the cursor. HTH

Heather - Thank you I was able to merge the letters together. I guess concern is why won't my Path, Object to Path option work? I have tried
using it for another tuturial as well and it just won't work.
