Welding

Post by aunt2two »

At the moment all I have is the trial version. Since it cuts out the giant word "DEMO" overtop the real thing I want to cut, I can't tell if is welding together my letters. I used a script font and visually, the letters look joined, but I was wondering if the software automatically cuts them all as a single word? Or is there some sort of "Weld" function I'm supposed to do to get it to cut as all one word?

With the word active, click on the Weld checkbox in the Properties window. Then, move all letters into place. You can click on the magnifying glass icon in the main window to view how your word will be cut. The red lines are what will be cut. You can make the view larger by clicking on Cutter -> Mat View. That will help you see letter intersections.

Maybe this is a feature not available in the trial version? There isn't any Weld check box in the properties window.

But if I buy it there for sure is something to weld with?

You should be able to weld even with the trial version. I've attached a screen shot of a welded word after clicking on the magnifying glass along with the Properties window showing the weld option. You definitely will have this functionality available to you after you purchase the system. It's a great program.

Yes, that check box is definitely not in the software I downloaded. And I don't want to purchase the software if it doesn't have the welding feature.

When did you download the trial version of SCAL? Perhaps you don't have the newest version?

Do you have the Properties window at all? If not, go to Edit -> Preferences, and click on the Restore Defaults button. That will make the Properties window visible again.

I downloaded it just the other day, so I'm pretty sure it's the latest version. Yes, the properties window is open. The Properties window has the "Flip Shapes" check box, but not the "Weld" check box.

That is weird that you have Flip but not Weld checkboxes. I would think they'd be there even on the trial. You could email Todd and ask him about it.

As you can see, the weld option really is there - certainly on the purchased version and you would have it one way or another! I'm sorry you can't see it now.
