I agree with Papasue. It may not be in the best interest of CraftEdge to keep bashing PC in a public forum. Just my opinion.

Re: UGH! MTC Settlement
The issue that's annoyed me for a while has been PC's statements that using SCAL or MTC voids it's warranty. Since the passing of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, voiding warranties based on using 3rd party software or OEM peripherals (such as OEM printer cartridges), is ILLEGAL. Shame on PC for scaring oodles of people with it's ridiculous and ILLEGAL claims.
Aside from that, I love my Expression. I chose it over the Silhouette because of it's amazing versatility (it can fabric, while you're not supposed to with the Silhouette). And the addition of SCAL just sealed the deal and made the Expression that MUCH more versatile. Legally banning the sale or use of SCAL with PC products will make them about as versatile a cutting tool as a rock. And if PC doesn't think it will *significantly* cut into it's sales figures ... well, it will then be obvious that PC is about as intelligent as a rock.

Does the silhouette SD work with SCAL? I will get one of those if I have to!

I am new to both SCAL and this MB. I am just getting wind of all that is going on. I like my Expression Machine and SCAL and will continue to use them together as long as I can. If need be I will make a decision as to which machine to add to my crafting toy collection, of course I need simple - lol. In the mean time I will create and enjoy crafting.
Re: UGH! MTC Settlement
Hello everyone, I'm new to posting to the forum. I'm very active on PC's boards. I am careful in my responses to such heated topics. On the other hand, I think it's the time for everyone to step up to the plate and support Craft Edge. They've done nothing wrong. In some ways this whole thing reminds me of the Microsoft suites and settlements. In the end, everyone ends up winning. Hope this is the case, because SCAL is the only reason I purchased the Cricut in the first place. I would not have purchased one if there were no way to use my own designs. Since that time, I've purchased two other machines that I use all the time. I find it's easy to bring out the computer with SCAL when I'm cutting a PC cart design, and then want to cut one of my own. I don't have to change machines, making the job quicker. Thank you Craft edge! You make a wonderful product.
I do have to add one last note. I'm thinking the backing up of cartridges function is the main reason PC brought this suite. They'd be crazy to go after Craft Edge, as harshly as MTC, because they'd loose lots of business from people like myself.

the backup cartridge feature in MTC was disabled 2 weeks in after the update came out. As PC requested. This article is pretty good, and puts a bit of light on things

Re: UGH! MTC Settlement
I have a friend who was intending on buying a Cricut and SCAL this week when her income tax refund arrives. As of right now, is it still safe to update the Cricut firmware via the trial version of Design Studio in order to get SCAL working? Or is there a workabout someone can share? It's been awhile since I've done this so I'm not sure.
Thank you,

Re: UGH! MTC Settlement
If your friend buys a new Expression (especially the colored ones, I have a green one) the firmware is already correct. So all you have to do if plug it in and run it. If she buys an older one then she'll have to upgrade the firmware..I've done it to my other Cricut (Create Machine) but that was a long time ago.
If you aren't learning something new everyday you might as well just lie in a grave and wait for death.

Re: UGH! MTC Settlement
The only reason that I have a Cricut is because of SCAL. I upgraded to an Expression and have convinced several friends to purchase an Expressions and SCAL. Due to this lawsuit against Craft Egde, I am personally boycotting the purchase of any and all Provocraft products. In my opinion, SCAL is a benefit to the Cricut. Too bad that Provocraft can't see that. Thank goodness Craft Edge is now compatible with other companies machines. If I have to go to another cutter and dump my E machine to keep my SCAL then I will. We stand behind you Craft Edge!! Kim
