Selection Tool Doesn't Work After Using it Once

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me cause I'm going bonkers. Here is what I'm doing and for some reason it only works once. I have a file open and I want to add some stuff so I select it all and ungroup it. I make a circle, I size it, I put it where I want it then I copy and paste it to the second spot I need it on. When I select the circle the first time, it allows me to edit it and do whatever, but if I change my mind and want to select it AGAIN it doesn't work. I click ungroup again, I click the arrow again, I clicked break apart and nothing allows me to re-select it. Oh and it has not been welded either. Any help would be SO appreciated. Oh and when I try to GROUP it again, it doesn't do it either. So I select the whole thing, click GROUP and it remains ungrouped.

Are you working in SCAL or Inkscape? Please let us know which program and which version and then maybe someone can help you.

If you can post the file you are working on that will help also.
