Make the Cut

Post by vh678 »

This question is focused toward the makers and maintainers of this website as well as users. I am sure many of you have heard of the software Make the Cut. It is a new program, much like SCAL, but supposedly more user friendly. I currently use SCAL2 and absolutely love it. What I find attractive about Make the Cut is the fact that all updates and new versions of the software will be free to current owners. Is there something that the people at Craft Edge are planning to do to make SCAL more competitive with MTC? I was a little disappointed to hear that we had to pay for the newer version of SCAL, but I heard that it was worth it. Since, at the time, SCAL was the only third party software for use with the Cricut, I went ahead and bought it. What do you all think?

SCAL is definitely improving each time.. It is now basically able to do whatever MTC is able to do.. MTC I do believe is a little bit more pricey than SCAL also... I've checked out MTC and I totally prefer SCAL2... They've only charged once for the upgrade with SCAL and that was to go from SCAL1 to SCAL2.. they don't charge to update your program... To give an example of what improvements have taken place it's already gone from SCAL2.0 to 2.10 ... so that shows the improvements that have been made over the few months it's been out... Others will tell you the same things I've just mentioned here..

Sounds like your using the original SCAL2.

You can get the newest update of SCAL2 # 2.010 for FREE here:

BTW: I tried the trial version of MTC and didn't like it at all. Did not find it user friendly and it had a log of bugs in the program. I love SCAL2 and use it all the time.

I own both. I got MTC on sale and thought I had to have it. I find the fonts very unintuitive to use with that program (and since most of what I do is with fonts or dingbats that is huge to me). I have and love SCAL2. I had to buy one for my MIL to use on her new E - I bought SCAL.

I've got both programs too.
I like the variety, since they both have their individual strengths and weaknesses (and annoyances!). I also like being able to compare svg projects across both programs in case there are glitches (this has come in handy with the recent SCAL compatibility issues with inkscape .47).
I am still mostly a SCAL-gal but I've got high hopes for the next MTC update, sounds like Andy is working on including more inkscape-like design elements into it, which I'm drooling over!
