Newbie Trying To Convert PDF to SVG
I have downloaded a Valentine PDF file and can not figure out how to convert it so I can import into scal. It shows up in my documents file with all my other saved svg files when I open it thru my desktop but when I open inkscape and try to find it to import it is no where to be found. I can open my documents file from my desktop and it then can be opened with Adobe Reader 2 --- I AM SOOO CONFUSED!!!!!

One thing you can do is open the pdf in another program, like a photo editing program, and save it as a .jpg or a .png then you can "import" it into Inkscape.

Open up the pdf file to view your image. Then can you do a "SAVE AS"? If so, then save it as a jpeg and see if that works when you import it.
Before you do the steps below make a copy of the image. To do that just open the image and resave it using a different name. The name can be as simple as adding a number to the title. Like 1heart.pdf.
Now that you have a second pdf try the steps below......
The other thing that may work is when your image is closed and on your desktop click the name of the image. This is like renaming it.....delete where it says pdf and type in .jpeg. So your image says something like valentine.jpg. Your computer may ask if you want to use jpg instead of pdf. If it does tell it yes and see if that work.

Try this!
I had a pdf file that had been converted from an .eps file. Just for grins I tried to import it into Ink .47. I got a dialog box PDF Import Settings I didn't change anything just clicked OK. And there is was as a vector file. Who knew?
The image I did had to be ungrouped but after I did that and saved it imported into SCAL2 just fine.
I have a Mac, so have no idea if Windows will do the same thing, but it should.
Let me know.
