SCAL 1 files not correct in SCAL 2

I created a file in scal 1, a 5" by 23" sign, I opened it in scal 2 did some edits saved it, but when I cut it only 12 inches of the 24 inches cut. The mat was set for 12 x24. Why does this happen. Also after it cut I closed the file, reopened it and and all the letter were jumbled and on top of each other. Has this happened to anyone else.
